Job Adverts That Actually Attract Candidates

If you’ve read one Property Manager job ad, you’ve probably read them all. They tend to be a generic line or two about the company followed by a long old bullet point list of generic responsibilities (sorry not sorry).

That technically outlines the role but it doesn’t tell people what it’s really like to work for you. It doesn’t show what makes your business different. And it certainly doesn’t make the strongest candidates in the market think “hell yeah I want to work there!”

Bullet points don’t inspire. They don’t connect. They don’t reflect the reality or true essence of your team.

So, what should a great job ad include?

Who you actually are! Go beyond “dynamic, forward thinking business” or “award winning Managing Agent”. By all means, showcase your accolades, but give us more! Tell us what actually makes you proud to work there. What’s your mission? What sets your team apart?

What it’s actually like to work for you! Culture, values, flexibility, development – these matter. What does day-to-day life look like? How does the team support one another? What can someone expect when they join?

What this person will actually be doing! Don’t just list duties. Go beyond duties. Talk about the IMPACT of this role. Its PURPOSE. Who will they work closely with? Is this a new role created through growth? What’s the portfolio like?

🎙️ Interview the current team or hiring manager — let them talk about the role in real terms

📈 If it’s a role created through growth, have a current team member explain what’s driving that expansion, the role they’re stepping into and what it’s actually like being in this position – if it’s a Property Manager role you’re hiring for and the current PM is remaining in the business, have them talk more about the role and the fact there will be a DECENT handover!
